About The Procedure

The anesthesiologist sedates you. You do not move and feel any pain during the procedure. The urologist inserts catheter into your bladder through your penis. A catheter is soft. Hollow tube allows urine to flow out of your body. It is an outpatient procedure. Penile prosthesis surgery is overall very safe.

After The Procedure

The anesthesiologist stops putting anesthesia into your body. You feel conscious (awake) within a few minutes, but you likely feel weak. Your urologist usually removes a catheter after the surgery. In general pain, swelling and sensitivity should decrease after a week. You may have sensitivity for up to six weeks. An inflatable penile implant is not noticeable. You may have small scar/s from your incisions, but the scars usually are not noticeable. Non-inflatable penile implants are always semi-erect, so they may be more difficult to hide with clothes. It is important to avoid heavy lifting or strenuous training that can put pressure on your incisions during your recovery. You need to follow the instructions of your doctor after the surgery about the issues such as having sex, masturbate, daily activities, medicine usage.
