Coronary Angiography

About The Procedure

The angiography procedure is performed with local anesthesia, the patient is awake and does not feel pain during the angiography. The process takes about 15 minutes. According to the angiography technique, the patient needs one day hospitalisation. The patient can be discharged from the hospital reagarding the medical evaluation.

Coronary angiography can be performed by entering from the inguinal vein (femoral artery) or wrist (radial artery) to view the heart vessels. If there is an anomaly related to these vessels, angiography can be performed rarely by entering other vessels. Local anesthesia is applied to the entry site and a sheath is placed inside the vein. This procedure can be slightly painful. The following procedures are painless. With the catheter (thin tube 1.5-2 mm) inserted through the vessel sheath, the vessels which are feed the heart are reached. An opaque substance (dye) is injected into the coronary vessels through the catheter and screening of the coronary vessels.

After The Procedure

After the procedure, the vessel sheath is removed and pressure is applied for 10-20 minutes to stop the bleeding. You stay in a recovery area for observation and monitoring. You return your service room when your medical condition is stable. So you are montiored regularly. You have the instructions from your doctor.
