During the procedure, we will make a small incision near the edge of the cornea and insert a small ultrasonic probe that will vibrate and help to break up the clouded lens into smaller fragments that will be suctioned out of the eye. Next, an intraocular lens implant will be positioned into the natural lens capsule to help correct the patient’s vision.
This procedure typically doesn’t require any stitches and will heal completely within a few days. We will prescribe eye drops to help reduce inflammation in the eye and prevent any postoperative infection. The length of time needed to continue the medication will vary depending on the patient’s specific procedure and condition. Though each patient is unique, most experience at least some vision improvement immediately following surgery with gradual improvement in the weeks following the procedure.
